Welcome to the department Experimental Plant Ecology !
In May 2012 the KNNV publisher will release the Dutch book 'Planten tellen. Over demografisch onderzoek', which aims to inform botanists (professionals and volunteers alike) on the practice, usefulness and joys of plant demography in the field or garden. Written by Piet Bremer, Eelke Jongejans, Gerard Oostermeijer and Jo Willems. More information.
Jan Jansen successfully defended his dissertation "Managing natura 2000 in a changing world: The case of the Serra da Estrela". Please read the press release, the colorful PDF (57mb).
In a recent Journal of Ecology paper Marco Visser, Eelke Jongejans, Michiel van Breugel, Pieter Zuidema, Yu-Yun Chen, Abdul Kassim and Hans de Kroon investigate the costs and benefits of mast fruiting in the Malaysian tree Shorea leprosula (see its seeds in the picture below) using stochastic population models. The paper is highlighted in editorials in Journal of Ecology, Science and Bionieuws.
Liesje Mommer answers this question (in Dutch) in the radio program 'Hoe?Zo!' Follow this link and move forward to 52:40.
