Multimodal Communication Studies (MCS) is an AI-centred point of gravity within the contributions of the Faculty of Arts to Radboud AI. It was decided to develop two types of educational building blocks, one for the alignment of speech and text, and one for the alignment of sign language to other modalities such as text and audio.
The Donders Institute is looking for an early career postdoc on brain-inspired deep learning for robots for the international project DEEPSELF. DEEPSELF is a project that lies between machine learning and cognitive science to investigate the emergence of agency in artificial entities by learning hierarchical predictive encodings of events.

ELLIS supports this year’s Vision and Sports Summer School taking place from 25–30 July 2022 in Prague, Czech Republic. To reinforce our vision on the development and application of Artificial Intelligence in the Netherlands, the Dutch AI Coalition has developed the NL AIC Label. An NL AIC Label formally recognises an activity and/or the quality of that activity in line with the aims and strategic goals of the Dutch AI Coalition (NL AIC).
Researchers from RadboudUMC, Radboud University and other universities and organisations will collaborate on a new project (‘Quality of Life by use of Enabling AI in Dementia’, or QoLEAD) aimed at improving the quality of life of people with dementia by 25% in 2030. QoLEAD will receive over 2 million euros in funding over the next few years.
We are very excited to announce the ELLIS unit Nijmegen has selected five students for the newly developed excellence fellowship program for the spring of 2022. This fellowship focuses on students interested in an academic career and have the ambition to write a paper alongside their master thesis by working on a research project with our ELLIS unit members.
This year's Ammodo Science Award for Groundbreaking Research in the domain of Humanities was awarded, in part, to Tamar Sharon, professor of Philosophy, Digitalization and Society at Radboud University and her colleagues at iHub. They receive the award for their research into the impact of digitalisation on public values.
