Sterrenkunde 2018-DvA-159917Are you interested in Astronomy? Do you want to learn more about stars, galaxies or planets? Are you
fascinated when you think about how vast the Universe is? If you are curious and you want to learn more about astronomy, Radboud University is your place to be! Please check our fun activities and contact us!

For more information on stargazing events, public lectures, workshops or any other requests, please contact us via outreach@astro.ru.nl.

Stargazing evenings & Telescope tours

sterrenkoepelEvery last Friday of the month, from September until April, we organise a stargazing evening in collaboration with the Astronomische Kring Nijmegen. You have the chance to observe the night's sky via one of our two telescopes in the Huygens Observatory on the Huygensbuilding. During the stargazing evenings, a professional astronomer of our department additionally gives a short public lecture. Also, interesting astro-movies are continuously shown, some of which particularly target our youngest visitors. The programme of the stargazing evenings is mainly in Dutch.

Further details can be found here and make sure to check the weather: we need clear skies to observe the stars!

Public lectures

Sterrenkunde 2018-DvA-159779Members of our department regularly give lectures about their research and other recent astronomical developments, for audiences with and without pre-knowledge about astronomy.

Topics of recent talks include black holes, gravitational waves, exoplanets, supernovae, the solar system and experiments we are involved in, such as BlackHoleCAM, BlackGEM, and LOFAR.

Workshops & projects for schools

9ecea7f9-851f-4f9a-9c5e-94c1a28cdf96We regularly go to schools to organise workshops and interactive sessions about research and astronomy. For example, we can teach how to play the Expedition Mundus game, through which children and adults alike can experience how research is performed. Participants in this game will try to find out how life is on the planet Mundus, by interpreting figures, graphs and other sources. The participants will 'publish' their results to help their colleagues to find answers to other questions.

We also guide activities based on the Universe in a Box tool provided by our colleagues at Universe Awareness.

Member of our department can also accommodate a limited number of internships and student projects (e.g. profielwerkstuk for secondary school students). Please find more information on the Radboud Pre-University College of Science page.
