WAOP Best dissertation Award for Jonas Dora's thesis 'A motivational perspective on smartphone behavior'
Jonas Dora is a former BSI PhD student, who was part of the Work, Health and Performance programme. In his dissertation, which he defended in October 2020, Jonas examined the link between mental fatigue and smartphone use in several innovative ways. For example, he did several **experimental studies** in the BSI lab, in which he systematically manipulated the reward value of labor (e.g., doing demanding mental work to earn money) and leisure (e.g., playing with one's smartphone). He also did a **field study**, in which he precisely recorded how often, and for how long, employees use their smartphone during work. Throughout his dissertation, Jonas prioritized Open Science. For example, except for one descriptive study, all research in his dissertation was pre-registered. Jonas currently works as a post-doc at the University of Washington, Seattle, United States.
We are excited to announce that Jonas has won the WAOP Best Dissertation Award. The WAOP Best Dissertation Award is the award for the best PhD thesis in Work & Organizational Psychology, defended between 2020 and 2022, in the Dutch language area. Congratulations Jonas!!
