Intelligent technology in education

Education is an exciting field to do research in. My inspiration for this work is to create a bridge between what we know from lab-based cognitive research to applied research in the classroom and implementations using online intelligent technology. Bridging these worlds is challenging: individual differences of learning pathways in an isolated lab setting are well-studied, but how these differences can be measured in a classroom is not easy, let alone providing personalized support. Intelligent technology plays a crucial role in measuring and supporting students’ learning, and with the help of research we can develop resilient hybrid learning systems.

My research explores how to optimize and tailor intelligent learning technologies to enhance the learning experience for individual students. I have worked on developing online large-scale multi-modal research methods for educational tools. To accomplish this, it is essential to collaborate between science, edtech industry and schools with the overall aim to have a positive impact on students’ learning and development in and out of school. Starting from February 2022, I am a postdoc researcher at the Adaptive Learning Lab. My main involvement is in CELLA, which is the Center for Learning and Living with AI, funded by Jacobs Foundation. This international team of scientists will investigate how we can detect, diagnose, and act upon the regulation and monitoring of students in secondary education working with AI-supported tools all over the globe. In addition, I am involved with the flora lighthouse project, where we are developing a student dashboard for higher education students to reflect upon their self-regulated learning.
