Research

The Clinical Decision Making (CDM) group is a group of researchers that studies factors influencing the process of decision making of clinicians. We view clinical decision making as a process of decision making under uncertainty, analogous to other decision processes studied in psychological decision theory. We address questions such as: How do biases, stress or fatigue influence the clinical decision making processes and does self-reflection by the clinician improves clinical decisions? We also study how and where decision support (in the form of guidelines, questionnaires, algorithms or feedback tools) is suitable and improves decisions and clinical outcome, how expectations influence decisions and clinical outcome, and what is shared decision making.
With the insights from these studies we aim to strengthen the decision making process of clinicians.
