Title:
The role of self-directed speech in executive functions and theory of mind in children with developmental language disorder
Abstract:
Many children with developmental language disorder (DLD) have problems with their executive functions and theory of mind (ToM). These problems may be related to self-directed speech. In the present project it is, first, studied how self-directed speech relates to executive functions and ToM in children with and without DLD, and to what degrees this depends upon language development. Next, it is assessed whether the EF impairments can be related to a specific mechanism of self-directed speech, namely verbal labelling. Finally, it is investigated whether ToM treatments can be improved by including self-directed speech as a component.
