Title:
The motivation of gifted, secondary school students from families with low social-economic status
Abstract:

Dutch gifted secondary school students do not perform as well as gifted students in other countries and seem to be less motivated for school than their agemates abroad. Also, students from families with low social-economic status (SES) have less opportunities to excel in higher levels of education in the Netherlands, an inequity in opportunities that has grown between 2003 and 2018. Motivation is an important predictor for school success. However, outcomes of studies on gifted, low SES students’ motivation are contradictory. The present study is aimed at gaining insights into gifted, low SES secondary school students’ motivation and improving it through a newly designed intervention.
