Phonological awareness which refers to the insight that spoken words consist of smaller units of sound is the basis for literacy development. For bilingual children, bilingualism is an important factor that influence their level of phonological awareness, they usually have advanced phonological awareness compared to their monolingual counterparts. This study will examine the development of phonological awareness and the relationship between phonological awareness and early literacy in bilingual Chinese-Dutch children who need to face two languages with different writing systems. |
