Responsibilities

Do you want to work for the emerging venture BioXtract?

BioXtract is an emerging venture that recently secured its first pre-seed funding through the SPRIN-D Challenge ( https://sprind.org/en/actions/challenges/tech-metal). Our interdisciplinary team of experts in biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology, mineralogy, geology, and modelling is currently validating the technology and preparing the transition from academic research to industrial application.
Modern technologies depend on critical metals that are increasingly scarce and geopolitically constrained. At the same time, large quantities of these metals accumulate in waste streams such as mining residues, electronic waste, and industrial effluents. BioXtract aims to unlock this untapped resource and transform waste into a sustainable supply of critical raw materials.
Our approach is inspired by natural biogeochemical processes that control metal cycling on Earth. We develop technologies to selectively mobilize, capture, and separate valuable metals from complex waste streams. The goal is to provide a more efficient and environmentally responsible alternative to conventional recovery technologies.

We are looking for a motivated and curious MSc student who is excited to take on the challenge of conducting market research and strategic analysis for BioXtract. Ideally, you have some prior experience in the business field. This is a great opportunity to explore emerging markets, identify opportunities for innovation, and contribute to the growth of a cutting-edge venture. If you enjoy working with data and know your way around AI tools to accelerate research and generate insights, you will thrive in this role.

What we expect from you

The tasks include:

  • First business model ideation
  • Identification and description of customer segments
  • Definition of the Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM, national market), Serviceable Accessible Market (SAM, European market), Total Addressable Market (TAM, Global market)
  • Competitor analysis in SOM and SAM;
  • Value proposition: USPs (Unique Selling Points) of BioXtract vs competitors in SOM and SAM
  • Design of Market Validation
  • Active market research, including talking to potential suppliers and prospects
