Academic diagnostic assessment of English

Students who are enrolled in an English-taught bachelor’s programme at the Faculty of Arts complete an academic diagnostic assessment of English (RADAr: Radboud Academic Diagnostic Assessment) in the first year of their programme.

Assessment and preparation

There is a lecture in week 2 of period 1 to prepare you for the test. After this lecture you can get to work with the toolbox on Brightspace. The assessment itself is scheduled in week 6. Should you fail to pass the assessment the first time, the Faculty of Arts offers three seminars in period 2 and 3 that allow you to work on your language skills and to prepare you for the resit.

Link to a B1 course

This test is linked to a first-year course of your degree programme, but all activities linked to it take place on a faculty-wide level.

You will have to pass the assessment to pass the course but the grade for the assessment does not count towards the final grade for the course.

Because the academic diagnostic language assessment is linked to a course from your B1 program, you can only pass this course once you have also passed the academic diagnostic assessment of English.

Should you fail to pass the academic diagnostic assessment of English in the first year, you will have to take the test again the following academic year. Because the assessment is linked to a B1 course, not passing it may have consequences for your Binding Study Advice.
