Fraud and plagiarism

Fraud constitutes any actions that make an accurate assessment of your knowledge, insights and skills difficult. Examples of academic fraud include cheating during an exam or plagiarising someone else's work in a paper. Plagiarism is defined as reproducing the ideas, formulations, results or work of others without due acknowledgement. Academic fraud will result in a mark of zero for the examination. The Board of Examiners may also decide to disqualify you from participating in examinations for the remainder of the current semester and possibly the subsequent semester as well. Repeated occurrences of academic fraud may lead to exclusion from one or more examinations for a maximum period of 12 months.

If an instructor suspects you of reproducing the work of multiple authors in whole or in part without due acknowledgement, the Board of Examiners may assign you a writing task on the same topic to be completed under strict supervision. If, upon evaluation of the original assignment and the supervised assignment, it is determined that the former was not your original work, this will also constitute fraud. The faculty uses the Ephorus Intranet Database to check for plagiarism.
