How do you choose your minors?
You can choose any of the minors on the condition that you meet any prior knowledge/entry requirements. Sometimes, no entry requirements are set for the minor as a whole, but they may exist for one or more courses within that minor. In that case, you can only participate in the courses for which you meet the entry requirements or those which have no specific entry requirements.
As a Faculty of Arts student, courses that you take outside the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology, & Religious Studies are automatically added to your elective minor. Education that you receive at a foreign university may be included in a study abroad minor and you are permitted to take more than one of these.
A Bachelor’s diploma grants you access to at least one Master’s programme. If you wish to take a different Master’s programme, you may have to choose a certain minor in some cases. See the information about “bridging” programmes and the prospectus of the relevant Master’s programme to learn more about this.
It is very important that you focus on your choice of minors at an early stage in your studies, preferably in the beginning of the second year. A number of questions will play a role in your choice, such as:
- Do you have a certain area in which you want to specialise and, if so, which one?
- Would you like to broaden your academic knowledge and skills, and, if so, in which areas?
- Would you like to study abroad and/or complete an internship during your degree programme?
- Would you like to take a different Master’s programme than the Master’s programme that is aligned with your Bachelor’s programme?
