Programme of B2
Dear student,
We are working on solutions for hybrid education that will take place online and on campus. Therefore the instructional modes, number of exams, the form of the exams and/or assignments may change. You will be informed through Brightspace in case of changes. The course information in the Course guide provides an indication of what you can expect in the course.
In the case of not being able to attend one or more practical courses/lab days due to corona measures, the course coordinator will decide if the student is obligated to re-take the missed meeting and how this will take place.

The second year curriculum for the Bachelor’s programme in Molecular Life Sciences is shown in the tables below.
Quarters 1 and 2 consist of compulsory courses. The specialization phase starts in quarter 3 (see second table), in which you choose combinations of courses that lead to your desired specialization in molecular life sciences. You can choose to specialize in a medical biological direction or in a bio-molecular direction.
The specialization phase specifically prepares you for either a medical biology masters programme or a molecular sciences masters programme.
1st Quarter: 12 EC |
2nd Quarter: 18 EC |
NWI-MOL027 DNA-technology (3 EC) |
NWI-MOL032 Crystal Structure (3 EC) |

At some time during your second or third year you should take the writing about science course and a philosophy course:
Writing skills and Philosophy
- NWI-FCEM02B Writing about Science can be taken in any quarter but the second.
- NWI-FFIL101 Philosophy is scheduled in the first (Q1) and second (Q2) period
Q1: aimed at physics topics, in Dutch
Q2: aimed at molecular topics, in English - NWI-FFIL100 Philosophy is scheduled in the fourth period (Q4) and treats topics from biology, in English
