The study programme Literary Studies is an advanced programme for highly qualified students interested in literature. The Nijmegen programme offers a tailored trajectory in one of the above fields with a strong theoretical perspective. During this two-year programme you will learn to approach historical and contemporary texts from an international perspective, examine the societal significance of literature, and discuss current theoretical issues with other scholars at the highest academic level. The Literary Studies programme is taught by researchers with an international reputation and research experience.
The Nijmegen programme is the only literary research master in which depth of the (sub)discipline, including ancient, historical and modern literatures, and attention to contemporary literary debates are combined with a broader humanities orientation. The programme prepares students for careers that require advanced academic competence and research skills, for instance in academia, in (higher) education, in literary or heritage institutions, and in the culture sector.
