Study association

Babylon is the study association for the Communication and Information Studies programme (CIS), with the Dutch taught master's specialization ‘Communication and Persuasion’ and the English taught master's specialization ‘Global Communication and Diversity'. The association is open to all CIS students Bachelor and Master and offers both academic and leisure activities. Babylon currently has around 500 members, 80 of which are active in various committees.

Babylon organises study-related activities such as business visits, workshops, the annual Congress, and an annual study trip to cities like Budapest, Dublin, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro and Bogota. In collaboration with the CIS programme, Babylon also provides secondary school students with information about higher education by the Student-for-a-Day programme and organising orientation days.

In addition, Babylon organises leisure activities such as parties, monthly ‘borrels’ (drinks), pub crawls and sports activities such as the annual ski trip. In mid-March, the association celebrates its anniversary by organising a whole week with all sorts of fun activities like lasertag, a poolparty, a ‘cantus’ or a Dinner Rouler. These activities allow you to mix and mingle with fellow students.

Each year, Babylon organises the orientation week for prospective CIS students. Before the start of the academic year, prospective students are given a tour of Nijmegen and an introduction to student life (and being a student in the Netherlands), the CIS programme, their fellow students and, of course, Babylon.

Babylon has its own association magazine, the Babylon Magazine, which covers important issues about the communication sector, the study association and student life. Members are informed of all administrative developments, secretarial updates and upcoming events via the association's website, social media and the monthly newsletter the ‘Babbel’.

In short, Babylon is a versatile study association that strikes the perfect balance between learning and leisure. Membership costs fourteen euros per year. In return, all members receive a discount on all textbooks, discounts on activities hosted by Babylon and a free subscription to the Babylon Magazine. Babylon also gives you the opportunity to work on your personal development as an active member in one or multiple committees.
