Programme overview

The MA in Theology is a three-year, English-taught programme (with the possibility of up to one year of Dutch-taught professional orientation). It comprises four areas of specialisation:

  • biblical exegesis;
  • history of the church and theology;
  • systematic theology;
  • practical theology;

These four domains of study are focal in the programme and offer you an opportunity for broad academic reflection on the Christian faith. Ultimately, you will choose the area of specialisation in which you wish to graduate. In conjunction with ongoing research, you learn to probe the key concepts and religious practices with a view to contribute to the tasks of theology in the world today (more especially in science, the church and society). In the third year, we offer four programmes that aim to combine the perspectives of research and professional orientation. Together the four programmes qualify you for:

  • an academic career;
  • professions in the policy-making and care sectors;
  • professions in pastoral studies;
  • teaching religion and theology in higher education.
