Examination and degree ceremony

Once you have completed all required course work and are within reach of submitting the two parts of your thesis, a committee of examiners will be appointed by the Examining Board. If the committee of examiners deems your submitted work of sufficient quality to merit the conferral of an MA diploma, a date for the thesis defence will be set. Click here for more details concerning the graduation and the thesis defense procedure.

The conferral of the diploma takes place within a few weeks from the thesis defence, during one of the Faculty’s public degree ceremonies, to which family and friends are also invited. There, you will receive your MA diploma. If you graduate with a high grade average you will receive a diploma carrying a predicate (judicium; more information on the various judicia). The diploma is accompanied by a supplement listing all components of the degree course. The supplement also explains that the Research Master’s diploma of Radboud University is equivalent to the MPhil degree awarded in a number of Anglophone countries. At the degree ceremony, the first examiner will give a laudatio (sermon of praise).

If you are unable to attend the degree ceremony, then contact the Examining Board at the latest two weeks prior to the oral examination, so that alternative arrangements can be made.
