General information
The Master's programme in Environment and Society Studies (ESS) at Radboud University is a one-year, full-time study programme. The ESS Master's programme has four specialisations: Corporate Sustainability, European Spatial and Environmental Planning, Global Environment and Sustainability and Local Environmental Change and Sustainable Cities.
This Master's programme discusses the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. We’ll study societal transformations towards sustainable futures. We question and critique current practices and governance to achieve the necessary fundamental societal change. A selection of our most prominent topics is: environmental justice, biodiversity, non-human animals, circular economy, energy, climate change and water. Environmental governance is about the roles played by markets, governments, communities and society itself.
ESS integrates various perspectives and disciplines into its programme where they are necessary and useful, such as sociology, political science, geography, planning business administration and natural sciences. In this Master’s programme you analyse and discuss how environmental issues are dealt with at various levels: the United Nations, the EU, the national level, the region and locally. It offers knowledge and skills to guide and influence societal transformations towards sustainability.
Studying abroad
The Nijmegen School of Management believes it is important for students to spend time at a university abroad. Please note, in the Master’s this could mean you have to take longer to finish the programme. This enriches the study programme with knowledge and skills that are necessary to function in an internationally-oriented and multicultural society, a global economy and job market. The Nijmegen School of Management has over 180 Erasmus contracts, and more than 50 bilateral agreements with universities outside of Europe.
