Elena was celebrated both for her excellent scientific contributions and for her major organizational endeavors. |

Sept. 15, 2012 | Joris Mooij (PI), Tom Heskes and Barbara Franke (of the department of Human Genetics of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre) have been awarded a NWO Vrije Competitie grant for their proposal "More Confidence in Causal Discovery". The project aims to develop novel methods that output probabilistic measures on the confidence in inferred causal relations. Tom Claassen will start in January 2013 as postdoc on this project. |
August, 2012 | Daniel Kuehlwein and Josef Urban scored two second places and one third place in the theorem proving world championship held at the Turing100 conference. The competition prizes were sponsored by Google. Have a look in this video. |
August 18, 2012 | Tom & Tom received the best-paper award at UAI 2012, one of the premier conferences in artificial intelligence, for their paper "A Bayesian approach to constraint based causal inference". TomC will present the work right after Turing award winner Judea Pearl, the founding father of Bayesian networks and causal reasoning. |

May, 2012 | The EU Project OPTIMISTIC, a collaboration with the UMC Department of Neurology on studying myotonic dystrophy, got accepted. The Machine Learning group is involved to develop and apply techniques for finding biomarkers that best explain the quality of life of dystrophy patients and then may lead to new therapies. |
