Sustainable science
The scientific system of today faces challenges which endanger its sustainability. These challenges can roughly be grouped into two themes: the quality of science and human resources. The flood of papers, the replication crises and the enfeebled reputation of science, the difficulty to evaluate and rank researchers in a fair and efficient way and put the quality of science at risk. Related to this, scientists also face many challenges, such as uncertainty and high working load due to few permanent positions, publication pressure, grant applications, high teaching load etc.
These challenges do not remain unnoticed at the Donders Institute. As an international research institute we strive towards world-class research. At the same time, we want to provide a stimulating working environment for our employees. Therefore, we have investigated the current challenges and formulated actions to improve sustainable science at the Donders Institute. We hope that our actions can inspire others to do the same and that, together we can adapt the scientific system to the current requirements of the time.
