Complementary research

This institute is a preferred partner of the Donders because of complementary expertise in the domains of perception, action, development, language and memory. These themes can be addressed using various approaches and methods, including imaging, animal experimentation, modeling and behavioural experimentation. Both institutes have excellent researchers in all these domains, but methods and approaches used are quite different, and hence complementary. Other domains that are shared are musculoskeletal research and patient studies, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. The Western University also houses a strong national centre for audiology, with emphasis on cochlear implants and research at various levels (imaging, plasticity, localization); this nicely complements work at the Donders Institute.

Exchange trainee programme

PhD students and postdoctoral fellows (PDf) of the Donders Institute are stimulated to propose for collaborative research visits, to be performed during the duration of their training or employment. The funding, secured primarily by the Donders Institute through the Erasmus+ Programme, is intended to allow trainees to gain international research experience and extend their skillset, and to help establish new collaborative research programs between PIs at both institutes.
