Perception and Awareness

Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and BehaviourOur research concerns issues of visual perception and visual awareness. We investigate both low-level mechanisms as well as influences of knowledge, attention, and intention on visual awareness, including perceived timing of events (e.g., for phenomena like binocular rivalry, perceptual filling-in, object tracking).

In addition, we study crossmodal processing, the role of interpretations in perception-action couplings, and the relation between visual imagery and motor imagery. Furthermore, in the next few years we have a special focus on the perception and appreciation of art. We use various research methods (e.g., psychophysics, brain imaging, eye tracking) and we also consider specific populations (e.g., infants, autistic individuals, visually disabled).
