GUIS: Inti Brazil

Dear all, Inti Brazil

Join us in the pre-holiday Growing Up in Science event! We’re delighted to have Inti Brazil in the hot seat for what is already our 10th edition. In keeping with the spirit of the times, we will hold this iteration online (details below), so you can join us from the comfort of your couch. Here are the specs:

Who: Dr. Inti Brazil
When: Thursday December 10, 16:00-17:00h
Where: Zoom: tinyurl.com/IntiGUIS

Here is the official story of Inti’s career: Hailing originally from Curacao, Inti moved to the Netherlands to study cognitive psychology in Leiden. He then worked as a junior researcher for 4 years at the Pompestichting / Psychiatry Department here in Nijmegen, setting up research in criminal offenders. He moved to the DCC in 2009 and completed his PhD (cum laude) there in late 2013. Flaunting all ‘rules’ about having to gain experience abroad, Inti immediately became an assistant professor at the DCC and in 2018 was promoted to associate professor.

Inti’s track record includes no less than 9 grants, > 50 publications, as well as many teaching and research awards. The best of these is surely his title as ‘Science Pearl of the Dutch Caribbean’.

Curious what things are like behind the scenes for Inti? How he balances teaching and research and still manages to take 6 weeks of summer holiday, every year, no fail? What it is like to work with serious offenders? What does he do in addition to all his awesome science? How many grants did he apply for but didn’t get?

Please join us so you can find out for yourself!

As always, you are very welcome (and encouraged!) to ask questions during the event via the chat, but if you feel a little shy you can also send questions in advance to Floortje Spronkers (f.spronkers@donders.ru.nl). These questions will be anonymized and asked by the moderators during the discussion.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Zoom rectangles,

Alan, Hanneke, Floortje
