Neurodevelopmental disorders

Theme leader: Barbara Franke

With a better knowledge of the etiology underlying neurodevelopmental disorders, and of the differences and communalities between individual disorders within this spectrum, we strive to improve the care for our patients, through the development of better diagnostics as well as improved and personalized treatment strategies. We aim to understand neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism, intellectual disability, and ADHD by (i) (epi)genetic fingerprinting; (ii) the interplay of genes and environment; (iii) developing cell and animal disease models. This knowledge is complemented with innovative neurophysiology‐ and neuroimaging‐based research to elucidate the neural correlates of altered cognition and behavior
