This year, the Titus Brandsma Institute is once again organising the annual Titus Brandsma Lecture (in Dutch). For this 31st edition, we are delighted to welcome values-driven leader and programme-maker Jacobine Geel as our speaker. With a background in theology, she worked for over twenty years in public broadcasting, making television programmes on topics at the intersection of society and religion and worldviews. She has also held, and continues to hold, various supervisory and board positions in education, social housing and mental healthcare.
Theologians who combine deep faith with the courage to engage with society have always inspired Jacobine Geel. Titus Brandsma was one such figure. But Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dorothee Sölle and Desmond Tutu also belong to this group of independent thinkers and people of action. Their courage deserves to be brought into the spotlight from time to time – and to inspire us here and now. In her lecture, ‘Where do they get the courage?’, Jacobine Geel will explore this theme in greater depth.
