A Relationship That Is Not Self-Evident

Thursday 29 January 2026, 7 pm - Thursday 30 October 2025, 8:30 pm
The Spiritual Process, Autobiographical

In this lecture, Willien van Wieringen shares her story of growing up in a pillarised society, within a Roman Catholic family. Life was full of certainties. Over time, however, things began to shift, and (sometimes unpleasant) surprises appeared along her path. Yet, time and again, there was the Church, of which she remained a part. And time and again, there was God, with whom she maintained a relationship. His existence was self-evident – the relationship was not. And this remains true to this day.

Lecture Series The Spiritual Process, Autobiographical

This lecture is part of the series The Spiritual Process, Autobiographical. In this series, various experts in spirituality speak about the spiritual process not only from their professional perspective but also from their personal experience. They explore aspects of the spiritual journey – confusion, wonder, perseverance, trust, fulfilment, and more – that hold particular meaning for them. In doing so, they bring the spiritual process into dialogue with science, their own lives, and the audience.
