Exploring the future of digital public discourse
How can societies respond to the increasing spread of disinformation in the age of Artificial Intelligence? What role can AI play in understanding, detecting and countering harmful forms of online communication? During the final events of the European HYBRIDS project, leading researchers, policymakers, journalists and technology developers will come together to explore these urgent questions and discuss how democratic societies can become more resilient in the digital era.
Programme
Navigating Disinformation in the Age of AI | 22-24 June 2026
The three-day conference will take place both online and in the Kessler Room of the Department of Sociology at the University of Trento.
The programme features keynote lectures by internationally recognised experts, alongside presentations by HYBRIDS doctoral candidates and project partners. Participants will discuss the societal and democratic implications of AI technologies and examine current developments in digital public discourse.
Topics include:
- misinformation detection;
- argument mining;
- fact-checking;
- hyperpartisan discourse;
- the impact of Large Language Models (LLMs) & multimodal AI.
HYBRIDS AI for Society Showcase | 25 June 2026
The HYBRIDS AI for Society Showcase is an interactive event hosted at the FBK Humanities Hub in Trento.
Participants will explore live demonstrations of AI-driven tools and case studies developed within the HYBRIDS project. Using real-world data, these demonstrations illustrate how emerging technologies can analyse and detect different forms of disinformation.
The showcase also creates opportunities for dialogue between researchers, industry professionals and societal stakeholders, who are invited to provide feedback on the relevance, usability and societal impact of the project's outcomes.
