For the fourth consecutive year, the Department of Art History (RICH) at Radboud University Nijmegen is organising the lecture series Art Histories in Dialogue. This series provides a platform for meaningful exchange between academics, curators, students, and other interested parties. Our aim is to bring together a diverse audience and a range of traditions, fostering reflection and inspiring conversations about how art and culture can be studied.
For the second session of this year, which will take place on Wednesday 19 November at 4:30 p.m., we welcome dr. Rixt Woudstra, University of Amsterdam (Architecture, empire, and trade: The United Africa Company, 2025), and dr. Matthew Mullane, Radboud University (World Observation: Empire, Architecture, and the Global Archive of Itō Chūta, 2025). They will be discussing their recent published books (25-30 minutes), before engaging in dialogue. Both books look at architecture and empire from different angles. Join us to explore their surprising connections and what they reveal about how we write histories of colonialism.
The speakers, who are coming to Nijmegen for this occasion, will not only present their work, but also engage in conversation with those present – students, researchers, teachers and other enthusiasts: join the dialogue!
