During a Bachelor’s Experience Day, you visit our campus for a day and follow a special programme with other prospective students. This day will give you a good impression of the university and the Bachelor’s programme. Moreover, it is the perfect opportunity to ask all your questions to students and staff.

12:45 - 13:10: Welcome at the Faculty of Arts!
13:15 - 14:00: Trial lecture - Opera and musical (dr. Natascha Veldhorst)
This short lecture will pay attention to opera and musical, two well-known forms of music theatre. We will discuss its origins and development and try to say something about the place they occupy in today's cultural landscape. Two outstanding examples, Monteverdi’s opera Orfeo (1607) and Mitchell’s musical Hadestown (2016), will be a point of discussion.

14:30 - 15:15: Trial lecture - Judith Butler on mourning and grievability (prof. dr. Marjolein Oele)
This short lecture will discuss a text by philosopher Judith Butler, analyzing the meaning of loss in our lives, and how certain lives are deemed grievable while others are not. We will discuss questions such as: in what way does grief exhibit the core of our existence? Can grief foster solidarity or block it? In what ways can art address and transform grief?
