Bat-watching tour

Thursday 25 June 2026, 10 pm - 11:30 pm
Come and spot bats on the campus at night!

Do you ever see them flying? The bats that live on and around the campus, both in the buildings and in the trees? Or have you ever noticed the many bat boxes on the campus grounds? If you’d like to find out more about the campus’s bats and see or hear them for yourself, come along to the late-evening excursion on 25 June 2026. Our guide will be Erik Korsten from the Zoogdiervereniging (Mammal Society).

This excursion is being held as part of the Biodiversity Challenge, during which we will try to spot and record as many plants and animals on campus as possible.

Starting point: On Erasmusplein in front of the Refter, starting at 10.00 pm
Duration: approx. 1½ hours – until approx. 11.30 pm
To register: please email radboudwandelingen [at] ru.nl (radboudwandelingen[at]ru[dot]nl)

Erik Korsten has been working at the research department of the Zoogdiervereniging since 2018, based in one of the campus buildings on Toernooiveld. Erik has been involved in bat research in the Netherlands since 2001, focusing in particular on bats that live in buildings and how we can provide them with alternative roosting sites when their current roosts are at risk of being lost.
