Sarcopenia and malnutrition are common among older adults and increase the risk of loss of independence and poorer health. This thesis investigated how care for this group can be improved. Commonly used tests to measure physical performance appear to be of limited use and have not been properly researched in people with sarcopenia. In hospitals, the recommended screening method is insufficient for detecting sarcopenia, while hand grip strength is better. For patients preparing for surgery, dietitian support and protein shakes to increase protein intake are effective. During hospitalization, a combined exercise and nutrition intervention proves difficult to implement because many patients are too frail. The implementation of this intervention has to be adapted to make it feasible. Healthcare professionals and older people emphasize that good cooperation, clear information, and active patient involvement are essential. Better recognition, appropriate support, and a well-coordinated care network can improve care for this group.
