BOYBAND, the literary boyband makes literature to scream through: poetry on a stage, but with sing-along choruses, sultry glances and the constant threat of a break-up. Wout Waanders, Jelko Arts, Laurens van de Linde, Martin Rombouts, and Koen Frijns are the only writers' collective with dance moves, bringing literary spectacle.

'Adriaan van Discotheque'
Finally: poets reciting poetry while blowing kissing hands into the audience. BOYBAND is a collaboration of writers, poets, musicians, and illustrators: Wout Waanders, Jelko Arts, Laurens van de Linde, Martin Rombouts, and Koen Frijns search for a new form of literature in a sequence of recitation, music, and theatre.
BOYBAND premiered at Lowlands, with a theatre show about the spotlight, playing for book vouchers and the fear of going solo. Now the literary boyband is touring the country. Offstage, BOYBAND also searches for new literature, with writer's merchandise like T-shirts, posters, and stick-on tattoos, music videos and a cheering fan club.
About BOYBAND, the literary boyband
BOYBAND bestaat uit dichter Wout Waanders (C. Buddingh’-prijs 2021), muzikant Laurens van de Linde (LRNS), theatermaker Koen Frijns (Frino), striptekenaar Jelko Arts en dichter en theatermaker Martin Rombouts (winnaar De Slimste Mens 2023).
BOYBAND consists of poet Wout Waanders (C. Buddingh' Prize 2021), musician Laurens van de Linde (LRNS), theatre-maker Koen Frijns (Frino), cartoonist Jelko Arts and poet and theatre-maker Martin Rombouts (winner 'De Slimste Mens' 2023).
Honorary doctor and writer Adriaan van Dis says of the BOYBAND: "Smart and funny guys, I think. I could hardly sit still when I saw them perform in Nijmegen. Even danced along. (In a corner... that is.) They appeal to both young and old bones. Their lyrics are disarming and ironically funny. They poke fun at fame, literature and especially literary and philosophical 'Wichtigmacherei'. The gentlemen can also dance quite well. In short, they are nimble in body and mind and keep me nimble too. I'm a fan!"
Radboud Art & Science Festival
This event is part of Radboud Art & Science. On 19, 20 and 21 October, immerse yourself in the world of art and science on the university campus.
Let yourself be transported to the past through music, film, and dance. Walk past photo exhibitions, light installations and visual art that give you a unique perspective of the campus. There will also be live concerts, performances, and interactive performances in unexpected places. In doing so, we delve into the university's heritage, history and day-to-day operations, and explore the stories of students, researchers and other staff.
Entrance to Radboud Art & Science is free and everyone is welcome. Will you be there?
