This PhD thesis first provides an analysis and description of the development of the curriculum position of subjects such as Civics and Law in secondary education and in the Secondary Education Act. It then offers an analysis and description of the relationship between Article 23 of the Constitution and civics education. How much decision-making space should a school have?
Th.E.M. Wijte (14 November 1947) is a former VWO/HAVO teacher and secondary school director. He has also held several political/administrative positions, including Alderman for Economic Affairs of Nijmegen, Mayor of Budel and IJsselstein, Criminal and District Judge in Rotterdam, Chair of VKO/NKSR, and Chair of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park.
