As climate and ecological breakdown intensifies, a growing number of scientists are moving beyond traditional academic roles into advocacy and activism. This increased visibility has sparked debate about the consequences of such engagement for society’s response to these crises, for public trust in science, and for the scientists themselves. In this talk, you will listen to Fabian Dablander who will draw on recent research, including a survey of over 9,000 scientists from 115 countries, to examine how and why scientists engage with climate change, what forms this engagement takes, and its impacts. He will also share his own experiences at the interface of science and advocacy, and highlight examples of successful and unsuccessful climate campaigns.
This talk is an invitation to reflect on your collective role as scientists in a time of escalating planetary and societal crises.
