Complex world, interdisciplinary answers

Monday 2 March 2026, 3 pm - 5 pm
Insights from an interdisciplinary study trip into complex issues, through the eyes of students and supervisors

Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education (ITDO) is crucial for tackling complex social issues. The SIG Interdisciplinary Education is therefore organising a panel discussion with Kjell Schipper, alumnus of Conflict Studies at Radboud University, together with his university supervisor Arnoud Lagendijk and practical supervisor Joost Tuinman.

Kjell presents his NATO Challenge Award-winning research on the ethical and organisational challenges of Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS). This research demonstrates how international security issues require the integration of ethical, legal, technological and organisational perspectives.

After the panel discussion, participants will engage in small group discussions with the speakers. Together, they will explore how human agency, knowledge cultures, pedagogical and institutional factors cultures can support or hinder interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education and research processes. In plenary session, we reflect on the question of how IDTO can be strengthened in our own practices at Radboud University.

Be welcome!

Interested parties from within and outside Radboud University are welcome. Registration is not required. After the programme, there will be an opportunity for further discussion and exchange in the CultuurCafé.
