Course about Course Design (COCO3 23-24)

04 March 2024

During this course, you will learn how to improve the design of your own course. You do this creatively, using theories about active learning, (formative) feedback, the functioning of the brain, and evaluating your education. Starting points are participants' personal experiences. You will redesign (part of) your course to optimise students’ learning processes.

    Target audience

Course coordinators and lecturers who want to get started on (re)designing (part of) their course. Preferably you can implement your (re)design, but this is not a strict requirement. For the more experienced teacher, the emphasis is on creative development and the more novice teacher will learn about the basics of educational design in a broad sense. You are assumed to have prior knowledge on constructive alignment (the alignment of learning objectives, learning activities, and assessment). If this prior knowledge has faded, you can consult additional learning materials to refresh this knowledge before participating in the course.

    Working method during the course

The training consists of three meetings of 3 hours. During these, you will work on the (re)design of (part of) your course. You will receive assignments and theories which will support you with this. During the meetings, there is lots of room for sharing experiences with fellow lecturers. Between the meetings, you will work on some supplementary assignments. Successful completion will earn you a proof of participation. The training is in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.

    Costs

The total workload is about 20 hours and is spread over about 1.5 months. Participation is free of charge.
