Course Design and Evaluation

During this course, you will learn how to (re)design and evaluate a course from your own teaching practice in a structured way.

    General

    Course Content

In this course, you will work in a structured manner on (re)designing a course from your own teaching practice. The ADDIE model will be used as a framework, with the various design phases of the model being covered during the sessions. The course addresses stimulating student motivation and academic attitude, and provides strategies for creating engaging, varied, and goal-oriented learning activities. Additionally, the course teaches how to integrate evaluation moments to ensure continuous improvement and how to effectively apply course evaluation to enhance the quality of education. By the end of the course, you will have developed a well-considered and innovative (re)design that serves as the foundation for a new course edition.

    Target audience

Teachers who participate in the regular UTQ programme of Radboud University.

Teachers who do not participate in the UTQ programme, as well as teachers from Radboudumc, are also welcome to follow the course, provided there are sufficient places. Teachers who participate in the UTQ programme will be given priority for participation.

In order to develop yourself fully in the competency domains Course design and Course evaluation, it is necessary that you have appropriate teaching tasks when you participate in the course. If you do not have these tasks, consult your supervisor.

    Working method during the course

When you participate in the UTQ programme, you will work on the UTQ assignment for the competency domains Course Design and Course Evaluation during the training. You will be provided with assignments and theories to support you in this process. The sessions will offer ample opportunity to exchange experiences with fellow teachers.

The course consists of three three-hour sessions, self-study, a feedback session, and a fourth, concluding session to complete the UTQ competency domains. Note: Every course session, including the first, requires thorough preparation by the participants. The preparation time for the first session is approximately 3.5 hours. Teachers who do not wish to obtain a partial certificate for the UTQ programme do not need to attend the fourth session.

The course is provided in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.

    Certificate of attendance

Teachers who have been present at all meetings and have completed the assignments will receive a Certificate of attendance. In order to receive the Certificate of attendance, active participation is required for 3 of the 4 meetings of the course.

    Partial UTQ certificate

Teachers within the regular UTQ programme complete the competency domains Course design and Course evaluation with the course instructor during the final meeting of the course. When the course and the UTQ assignment have been successfully completed, the course instructor will give their advice to the faculty to award the partial UTQ certificate. Your faculty is responsible for awarding this certificate.

    Costs

    Participation is free.

    Attendance during courses

Due to the high demand for the courses, the number of teachers who can participate is limited. In order to be able to support as many teachers as possible, we ask you to give priority to the course and to be present at all meetings. The first meeting is essential for taking the course. If you are unable to attend this meeting, we ask you to cancel this edition and to register for another edition of the course. In the unlikely event that you are unable to attend one of the other meetings, we ask you to keep to the following procedure:

    1. Cancel a meeting at least 24 hours in advance by contacting the course instructor of your course.
    2. Only cancel a meeting in unforeseen circumstances, such as illness, family circumstances, etc.

If you are absent from a meeting without notification, we are compelled to cancel your registration for the course. To obtain a Certificate of attendance, active participation during 3 of the 4 meetings of the course is mandatory.

Do you want to unsubscribe from an edition? Please send an e-mail to Cursusbureau [at] oo.ru.nl (Cursusbureau[at]oo[dot]ru[dot]nl) stating your name, course name and edition number.
