It is important to pay attention to both the ear itself and the potential hearing loss and psychological functioning in patients with a malformation or deformation of the ear. This dissertation shows how the flow of patients is regarding the ear clinic and what choices patients make regarding the ear and hearing. The way in which the patient enters the clinical pathway does not influence the outcome, and they were very satisfied regardless of the choice they made regarding treatment. Other studies on the results of ear reconstructions showed that a prosthesis attached to Vistafix® implants is a safe method, and patients rated an ear prosthesis and reconstruction equally in terms of aesthetics. In another study, we mapped the cost-related variables of an ear shell reconstruction.
