The impact of generative AI (genAI) tools on education can no longer be ignored. These applications can be used to support, enrich or outsource many components of academic education. This begs the question: What does it mean for learning and development when students outsource their education to an IT tool? And to what extent does the use of genAI tools infringe upon the values on which an academic institution is built?
This double workshop follows up on the Brightspace self-study AI & Teaching Literacy Module and exists of two separate meetings which focus on different aspects of dealing with genAI in academic education. We believe it is most worthwhile to join both meetings, but it is possible to enroll separately based on your schedule or preference.
Note: The workshops are not aimed at integrating the use of genAI in your education.
Target group
These workshops are designed specifically for teachers who are struggling to find the right path forward in the current age of genAI in academic education. Before you attend these workshops you are required to go through the AI & Teaching Literacy Module. Please bring notes on your educational genAI challenges to the workshops. It is valuable to do this together with a colleague.
Method
There are two workshops of 3 hours.
- Meeting A gives more insight and grip on the impact of genAI on student development and academic skills & integrity.
- Meeting B focuses on the educational design side of things and aims to improve the learning objectives, learning activities and assessment methods.
Both meetings are designed to let you go home with a certain concept or plan by which you can improve your education in the near future. Meeting A is ideally attended first as the ideas for interventions from this meeting can be incorporated into the bigger picture of educational design in meeting B.
The workshops are in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.
