From beautiful to practical: heritage exhibition on maps and atlases

'A map creates the world, as a poem creates feeling,' said Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer in the foreword to the recently published public book Maps That Wrote History. Maps and atlases still spark the imagination today. In 2022, a record number of map books saw the light of day. This year also marks the 350th anniversary of Joan Blaeu's death. His Grooten Atlas (Atlas Maior) is rightfully a window into the Canon of the Netherlands and fetches astronomical sums at auctions.
