High-skilled migrants navigating transnational mobility and local embeddedness

Wednesday 3 December 2025, 9 am - Thursday 4 December 2025, 5 pm

This workshop aims to explore high-skilled migration, focusing on the professional and personal trajectories of these individuals. The objective of the workshop and the subsequent special issue is to investigate what distinguishes high-skilled migrants from other types of migration, particularly in terms of transnational mobility, rootedness, and personal and professional integration. Drawing on the concept of "partial exit" and "elective belonging", this workshop will explore how high-skilled migrants navigate the tension between global mobility, virtual mobility and local attachment. The study will focus on how these migrants manage complex identities and networks, balancing global career demands with local community involvement.
