On 22 October from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m., the IMR Academy seminar 'Strategy for Sustainability Transitions, Governance, Community and Environment' with Kristof van Assche and Monica Gruezmacher takes place in EOS N 01.110.
Kristof Van Assche and Monica Gruezmacher are invited to present their perspective on strategy for sustainability transitions, building on previous work on evolving governance, steering and social-ecological systems.
They will argue that grasping possibilities and limits of transition strategy requires new understandings of sustainability, of strategy and of transition. Ambivalence, resistance, opacity and rigidity always need to be taken into account, while, at the same time, those negativities do not entail a rejection of strategy for coordinated transitions.
The presentation, followed by discussion, brings to the fore the key arguments in the book they recently published, together with Raoul Beunen: Strategy for Sustainability Transitions. Governance, community and environment. (Edward Elgar, 2024)
Kristof Van Assche and Monica Gruezmacher currently work at the University of Alberta, Canada.
This seminar was prepared by Henk-Jan Kooij and Mark Wiering.
We hope to welcome you on 22 October.
