Thursday 20 May 2027, 7 pm - 8:30 pm
Spirituality as a Communal Process

Nadia Kroon is a practical theologian and PhD candidate. After a long period of searching and spending time in several monasteries, she joined the Dominican Sisters and made her final vows in November 2025. Her journey has been characterised by a search for balance between the individual and the community, with monastic wisdom on the path towards self-knowledge serving as a guiding principle.

Lecture series: Spirituality as a Communal Process

This online lecture (via Teams) is part of a lecture series on the theme ‘Spirituality as a Communal Process’. Throughout the series, various experts will explore spirituality as a communal process.

Today, radical individualism is widespread, and when people do connect with a community, these connections are often not long-lasting. In their influential study Revisioning Spirituality: Human Transformation and the Communal Imagination, John Markey OP and Michael Ceragioli explore the power of a shared imagination to renew our understanding and practice of Christian spirituality. They argue that religious experience is always both communal and social as well as personal, meaning that a person’s spiritual transformation is always, at the same time, a communal transformation.
