Magic magnets, magnetic light and why physics is so much fun (first show)

Monday 8 May 2023, 3:30 pm
A Radboud Gesture

* Please note: the language of this event is Dutch *

Spins (elementary magnets) in magnetic materials are strongly coupled by the exchange interaction – one of the strongest quantum forces. We do experiments with magnets and laser light to control the strength of this magnetic force with light and thus realize the fastest and most efficient magnetic data storage. In our Radboudgebaar we want to show how magical magnets are, how we can use light to study magnets and how much fun it is to do physics experiments in the lab.

Before the start of the show (from 15:30 to 16:00), everyone is welcome to experiment with light and magnets under the guidance of a scientist and learn how magical they are.

For who?

This Radboudgebaar is for everyone, young and old. It consists of experiments with magnets and light, a promotional video about our research and the live show “Physics in the Lab”.
