The organisation
Eikenhorst is a small-scale residential facility for elderly individuals with somatic conditions or dementia. The complex is situated in a beautiful, forest area between Nijmegen and Groesbeek. Together with care professionals and volunteers, a comfortable home is created for the elderly residents.
What will you do?
You can choose from three different social activities to assist with. The right match will be made in consultation with you. Ideally, you would participate in the same activity each week so that the elderly residents can get to know a familiar face.
The residents either have dementia or physical limitations due to somatic conditions, so extra support and attention during activities is greatly appreciated. In addition to your regular activity, you can also spend one-on-one time with residents; for example, going for a walk or bike ride together.
Assistant for social activities, such as bingo
Monday, from 13:30 at the dementia department
Together with other volunteers and a well-being coordinator, you’ll help ensure the activity runs smoothly and create an enjoyable afternoon for the residents. You’ll help escort residents to the activity, assist them during the event, and create a warm, friendly atmosphere.
Assistant for creative afternoons
Tuesday, from 14:30 at the somatic department
Every Tuesday afternoon, a creative activity is scheduled; often arts and crafts, handicrafts, or baking. Activities take place in the living room or on the department’s terrace. You’ll help organize and carry out the activity, focus on creating a pleasant atmosphere, and lend a listening ear. Alongside other volunteers, you’ll help residents enjoy their afternoon.
One-on-one activities
Wednesday afternoon, at the somatic department
Personal attention is very important. On Wednesdays, you’ll have the chance to spend one-on-one time with residents. This could be anything from taking a walk, playing a game, or simply sitting together and having a chat. You’ll ensure they have a pleasant and fulfilling day.
Assistant for Movement to Music / other movement activities
Thursday afternoon, at the dementia department
Every Thursday, the ‘Movement to Music’ activity is scheduled. Residents sit together in a large circle and move, often while sitting, to music. Many exercises require one-on-one assistance, so we need plenty of assistants to help as many residents as possible take part. Enjoy helping seniors stay active? Your help is more than welcome!
(Movement to Music will run until December 4th, after which it will be replaced by another movement activity)
