Meet-up SIG Assessment

Monday 19 January 2026, 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm
Flexible digital assessment: greater success, greater understanding. How can you give students more control over their learning process and increase the pass rate?

For years, only 30% of students passed the Reactor Engineering course at TU/e. That was until John van der Schaaf radically revamped the teaching and assessment methods: no more traditional lectures, but modules with videos, guided self-study and digital tests that students can take at times that suit them. The result? 70% now pass and students understand the material better.

During this meeting, John, Director of Education at CE&C, will explain how he developed this approach, the challenges he encountered and why this method is now also being used in other subjects. You will gain practical insights into:

  • How flexible testing works in practice
  • What preconditions are necessary for success
  • How crucial cooperation between lecturers, ICT and examination boards is

Join us and discover how smart assessment innovation doubled the pass rate and motivates students to really learn!

Be welcome!

SIG meetings are always open to everyone — whether you are joining for the first time or have been before. Each meeting offers space for new perspectives, fresh ideas and valuable exchanges. So feel free to join us, even if you are not yet familiar with the SIG!
