Memory training and smart learning

Would you like to remember and learn information off by heart much faster? In four sessions, this skills module teaches you various memory techniques, how to apply and analyse them and to evaluate the usefulness of memory techniques. You'll also practise casting a critical eye on the promises made by memory training and go in search of your own way of learning successfully.

Please note: this module is taught in Dutch.

Most students have never been taught how they should learn. Although everyone has their own way of learning, not all methods are equally successful. Memory techniques and prompts don't get used often even though they make great accomplishments possible for memory champions - accomplishments that seem incredible to most students such as, for example, learning a sequence of random numbers off by heart in 20 seconds. In combination with learning principles, these techniques are not tricks, but they do form a genuine memory skill that you can use in your studies.

In order to get the most out of this training in your studies, we recommend you practise memory and learning techniques regularly. So take into account preparation and practice time of two hours a week. You will have free access to an online training environment.

The lecturer for this module is Boris Nikolai Konrad. He has been working as a lecturer and memory researcher at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in Nijmegen since 2014. Before that, he studied physics and information sciences in Dortmund and Reading and got his PhD in neuronal principals of a supermemory at Munchen. The general public knows him as a memory champion. His successes include being Team World Champion eight times (most recently in 2018), four Guinness World Records and the winner of several television programmes. His book, De geheimen van ons geheugen was in the Top 60 of Dutch Books in 2018. His lectures and training sessions are requested all over the world.

The module consists of five sessions on Monday evenings from 18:30 to 21:00.

The Radboud Honours Academy believes that learning is best experienced when we work together in the same space, so physical presence is required. If you know that there are one or more sessions that you cannot attend, please choose a different module, so that you can get the best out of this experience, with your fellow students.
