Menstrual Mind and antibiotic resistance

Thursday 22 January 2026, 7 pm - 10:30 pm
Alumni and donors event

On Thursday evening, 22 January, you will learn about two examples of groundbreaking Radboud research in the field of the menstrual cycle and its influence on the brain, and antibiotic resistance. During the lecture, you will learn more about the effect of hormonal fluctuations and how a solution to antibiotic resistance is being developed.

Cathelijne Radstaake en Ricardo Wennekers

For their project Menstrual Mind, Cathelijne Radstaake and Ricardo Wennekers collected a unique dataset by tracking women throughout their entire cycle. ''Many women say they feel different just before their period. But we still know very little about exactly what changes in the brain.''

Willem Velema

Willem Velema is working on a solution to antibiotic resistance. ''If we do nothing, 10 million people will die every year from antibiotic resistance by 2050. It is high time for new antibiotics.''

After this inspiring lecture, we invite you to join us for networking drinks, where you can continue your conversation with the scientists and other attendees. Experience yourself how innovation takes shape and discover how Radboud University is working towards a healthy, free world with equal opportunities for all.
