The Halkes Women+ Faculty Network Nijmegen, in collaboration with the Radboud Women Professors Network, invites you to their Roundtable Event ‘Navigating Freedom, Sustainability & Gender Justice in Academia’. Our roundtable discussions aim to create an opportunity for reflection and facilitate the sharing of experiences and ideas around urgent matters in our daily life as women+ members of the academic community. This year’s list of roundtable topics, and example questions includes:
Roundtable 1: Speaking up as academics: Academic freedom and safety
- What sensitive debates are you engaged in as academics, at the department and institutional level?
- What platforms are there to speak up and to take action? Do you consider alternative platforms?
- Do you have experience being silenced, and how did you react?
Roundtable 2: Long-term sustainability of an academic career (e.g. coping with job-insecurity in academia)
- How to survive temporary jobs, cope with uncertainties (e.g. job relocation)?
- Effects on motivation, private life and mental health?
- How do we navigate these on a personal and organisational level?
Roundtable 3: Women+ scholars ending up doing the academic housework
- What kind of work is considered valuable (or not)?
- What kind of work takes a lot of energy but unrewarded?
- What kind of strategies do people have to navigate this kind of work?
Roundtable 4: Evergreen avenue: The slow progression in academia in support for life events
- What has changed and what is yet to be changed?
- What kind of support can people in academia expect for life events including caregiving and sickness?
